4.18. How can I price pre-spaced letters by the square foot?

I am doing a large number of pre-spaced letters that I cut, mask and weed for my customer, and would prefer to simply price it by the square foot rather than using the prespaced module. How do I do it?

It is possible to price pre-spaced letters by the square foot in EstiMate. To begin you will need to briefly go to the pre-spaced letters module and price one 12' vinyl letter.
1. From EstiMate's main screen, click quick quote>pre-spaced letters/logos
2. Choose a cap height of 12' and the number of letters = 1;number of sets also = 1
3. Select the vinyl you will be using from the dropdown menu.
4. Double-check to make sure your subjectives on the right are where you want them and click 'calculate total'.
5. Double-click on the subtotal box to get to the hard numbers screen.
6. On a piece of paper or electronic notepad, write your total expenses as listed in the left column and your selling price as indicated on the lower right.
7. Click the green check mark and then the cancel icon on the quick quote screen.
Square foot pricing for prespaced letters is best done in the linear/square items module, so
8. Click quick quote and linear square items.
9. Click the book icon to the right of the 'select an item' dropdown box.
10. Click the button labeled new.
11. For the description put in something like 'Vinyl letters - cut, weeded and masked.'
12. From the 'This item sold in' dropdown boxes select square and feet respectively.
13. In the cost per unit field put in the figure from the expense column you notated from step 6
14. In the selling price field, input the selling price figure you wrote down from step 6, EstiMate will automatically figure the markup.
15. Click the green checkmark to OK the database entry, and return to the linear/square items screen.
16. From the linear/square items screen click the 'Select an item' dropdown box and select the new entry you just created.
17. In the height and width field put in the height and width of your job as specified by your customer and indicate the desired quantity.
18. Click calculate total and then the green check mark to OK the item.
19. Choose a client and check the 'open this estimate now' checkbox if desired.
20. At the estimate screen click the print icon and choose 'estimate'.
